ST. PATRICK´S DAY
IT IS CELEBRATED IN IRELAND. Ireland is surrounded by water so it is considered an island. It is the
third largest island in Europe. In fact, Ireland is commonly referred to as the “Emerald Isle” because it
is so green with vegetation due to its mild climate and abundant rainfall.
Interesting facts:
• Vehicles are driven on the left side of the road.
• There are no snakes in Ireland.
• There are around 400 species of birds.
• The common lizard is the only reptile native to Ireland.
• Dublin is the region visited by the most tourists.
WHO IS ST. PATRICK`S? St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He didn´t always live in Ireland. He is said to have converted many of the country’s residents to Christians.
TODAY´S TRADITIONS. You’ll often see the four-leaf clover on St. Patrick’s Day. It is considered a symbol of good luck. Legend says that each leaf of the clover has a meaning: Hope, Faith, Love and Luck.
Corned beef and cabbage are traditional foods eaten on this holiday.
People dress in costumes to celebrate St. Patrick's Day at a parade.
In some places, rivers,
fountains, and canals are dyed green.
